Mission

LEAF in Schools & Streets (LSS) empowers youth through festive arts! LSS is a non-profit collaborative outreach program sending performing artists into local communities for hands-on workshops, residencies, mentoring and performances. The experience provides opportunity for the youth to attend Lake Eden Arts Festival and to perform alongside resident artists on a national stage, with their parents in the audience. Participating youth gain self-esteem and tolerance while experiencing workshops, being a performer, multiple interactions with performing artists, and a festival adventure.

Outreach

Since its 2004 debut, LSS has featured talented and award-winning artists, who have inspired more than 3,100 Buncombe County area young people in 14 schools, 5 after-school programs, The W.C. Reid Community Center, YWCA youth programs, The Swannanoa Youth Development Center and the Blue Brass Project which united youth of WNC & TIPS interns of New Orleans.

LEAF in Schools & Streets Educational Outreach includes:

  • Hands on residencies, workshops, mentoring & performances with artists from the local, regional & international community.
  • Lake Eden Arts Festival performances with youth and artists.
  • Professional Development for teachers & opportunities to earn “Continuing Education Units” (CEU’s).
