LEAF is #1 Festival for KIDS:...and it just got even better! LEAFMapMay2014
Kids' Village  Is STARBURSTING across LEAF for 7 mini-interactive villages & One Big FAMILY ADVENTURE. LEAFlet Kids Village was SO AMAZING yet a bit isolated, and parents would get trapped there. Many parents requested beer in kids village or a main stage....we couldn't do that so we starbursted EVERY aspect of the beloved Kids Village throughout LEAF.The map is in design - look for orange labels for FAMILY ADVENTURES. LEAF Schools & Streets: The Impact of Local Arts Education!
LSSIRLChristineGroupPose3EHwebWOW! Over 2,800 students experienced arts education through LEAF Schools & Streets this past October 2013! Our Winter/Spring 2014 programs are in full swing throughout the community & we can't wait to see what goodness they have in store for us this May!!! Students in Christine Garvin's "Hip-Hop Through the Ages" at IRL are working on their retro choreography for the World Dance for the Family showcase. "I am excited about performing at LEAF!" shared Gabriela... "I’ve performed a lot of places with the Asheville Ballet Conservatory, but this will be my first time at LEAF! I like performing and being in front of an audience – it makes me feel confident." Be sure to catch the festival performances *featuring LSS Youth Performers!* this May!

LIHaitiBEDanceHandsUp 640x480LEAF International Haiti: 12 Students coming to May LEAF! Just 5 kids left to support to come on this journey!

It has become LEAF tradition to bring our international friends to the US. We are thrilled to have 12 students coming from Port-Au-Prince, Haiti to participate as Performing Artists in LEAF’s 38th music festival and participate in cultural exchanges with local youth. These students are extraordinary and dedicated to learning traditional Haitian drumming and dance. They are coming with their LEAF Teaching Artists (Drummer Bois Gris and Dancer Johanne), and Grammy-nominated Boukman Eksperyans, Haiti's most well-known group who has led traditional Haitian music for 36 years. "The traditional Haitian music is powerful, and important. The music feels holy, something that we own ourselves. And you just HAVE to dance when you hear the rhythms!" exclaim the students...a taste of what you can look forward to at May LEAF!!

LEAF is proud to announce the lineup of performing artists for the Spring 2013 LEAF Festival, taking place May 9-12, 2013 in Black Mountain, NC. Headlining the 36th festival are R&B icon Mavis Staples; urban Latino culture-mashers Ozomatli; Peter Rowan Bluegrass Band, led by the bluegrass legend; Zimbabwean maestro Oliver Mtukudzi & the Black Spirits; and Abigail Washburn, Appalachian songbird & long-time LEAF favorite. I really love both the community you've built around the festival, and the great work
